What to Expect Stroller Strides.jpg

Cost & Benefits of Stroller Strides

What are the benefits of stroller fitness?

1. No childcare costs! Stroller Strides, and Stroller Barre allow babies to accompany mom in the stroller, while she works out. These classes not only "allow" strollers, but they babies are a crucial part of our class. We keep them safe while keeping eye contact and singing songs that they love. From my experience, a "Stroller Buddy" baby will learn to sing his A-B-Cs, and count forward and backwards sooner than you can believe. Watching each other's kids grow up is a unique benefit to this program, unlike drop-off child care, we see and speak to each other's children and get to know them- for all the many, many, many good days and the occasionally ugly ones. (Moms of threenagers??? ***support!!***)

2. Small group training is much more affordable than personal training, while allowing each mom to have a modification that works for her: prenatal, low impact, or a more challenging modification.

3. Postpartum depression is a very real danger to the welfare of mom and baby. These symptoms can come and go for two + days a week over several weeks to lasting much longer. Some people call it the mama blues, anxiety, depression... anyone can suffer from this - the "happiest" chicka to the "healthiest". During pregnancy and after baby our bodies are experiencing drastic change, a momentously and often TRAUMATIC event, then CRUSHING responsibility with additional hormonal and physical changes, and for new moms drastic social changes as well. If you aren't feeling quite yourself, take a look at the list of symptoms. It surprised me how many of these hit home. (SYMPTOMS OF POSTPARTUM) #1 SEEK HELP and #2 YOU ARE NOT ALONE .

It can be debilitating and extremely lonely. After seeking therapy, there are additional self-help tools for postpartum depression. Get more sleep, eat healthier, and take some time for yourself. All hard to do with a new baby, but group fitness & socialization are also ways to combat this. Join Stroller Strides for physical fitness (and healthy hormone rush from exercise) & Our Village Moms Club for socialization, play dates, and connect with other moms. Two birds with one stone?? I think YES. Read more about the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression on fit4mom.com. (POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION)

4. Meet other moms! Yes, you can find a workout buddy to get in shape with and someone who is in the middle of [insert stage of growth here] , too. I joined looking for friends and fitness, and I got that, but I got something more. My daughter developed deep friendships with the other stroller buddies. Afterall, they saw each other regularly several times a week! Teething, weaning, building your dream house, medication, moving, movie reviews, co parenting issues, divorce, local playgrounds, chick-fil-a loving, rehab, spiritual journey, crock pot prepping, crafting, running with stroller, weight loss, budgeting, job loss, vacationing with baby, in-law visits, organic eating, anniversary shopping, dish washing practices, furniture refinishing, pregnancy, and everything else.... you can find that conversation after Stroller Strides, on the playground with the other moms.

5. Stroller Strides offers a great opportunity to bond with your child, and other moms while demonstrating for your little human(s) that exercise and fitness can be fun and hard, but most of all it can be a part of your life, too. Stroller Strides moms are leading by healthy example! Many new moms are unable to plank, crunch, push-up, or jog when they start. After a few months, they transition into those exercises - and have the smiles and the confidence they earned from their hard work. FIT4MOM is fitness designed for motherhood. We have morning, evening, and weekend classes to meet the busy mom's schedule.

The other part of that question is what are the risks of not trying Stroller Strides?

Only you can answer this question for yourself. However, If I had never tried Stroller Strides, I would still be 220 lb or more, just accepting my body and life as "this is me". I wasn't happy there, I felt tired, limited, disappointed, frustrated, unattractive. I was obese, any future pregnancies were doomed to be risky AGAIN, diabetes, heart disease, risks all increased. I was risking pushing these negative body image feelings on to my daughter, resenting my body and my lack of 'health' and size 18 pants. :0(

This is what I was risking by putting off attending that first class and committing to a lifestyle that included time for fitness that worked for my family. Please don't let embarrassment or nervousness prevent you from trying Stroller Strides. Some moms come in as runners, athletes, but most people couldn't complete a plank, push-up, burpee, situp, jog or crunch when they start - myself included. (That's where those modifications come in.)

If you want to increase your fitness and exercise find a program that works for you and GO CRAZY! :0) Choose health. Choose happiness. Choose fitness.

How much do classes cost?

The costs of Stroller Strides varies across the country. At FIT4MOM La Porte we have a variety of price programs to suit your fitness needs. One question I am asked frequently is "are they free"? No, these classes are not free. Why? All FIT4MOM instructors have received specialized training so that they can work with a pregnant or newly postpartum mother's body. Instructors mus pay these certifications, first aid & pediatric first aid, professional licenses, stroller toys, and fitness equipment, and business costs, which require that we charge for these high quality fitness classes. You can rest assured that our instructors are not 'winging it', 'saw this on youtube', or 'kinda know this'. We are qualified fitness professionals, and we promise to offer our mommies the absolute safest and best class experience possible.
